Совсем недавно была вручена Нобелевская премия по физике. Российский учёный-астрофизик, доктор физико-математических наук, профессор РАН, член-корреспондент РАН Юрий Юрьевич Ковалев поможет разобраться, за что ее вручили, а также расскажет и о других актуальных вопросах астрономии.

Earth would not remain flat for a long time as gravity will make sure it again pops up into a sphere. Remember, gravity pulls equally from all sides, hence planets are spherical.
Now, if earth was flat and not a sphere, then it would obviously stop rotating. This will lead to the following problems.
Firstly, only revolution around the Sun but no rotation around its axis would mean that Earth will experience a 6-month long day, followed by a 6-month long night.
Secondly, it is believed that rotation of Earth generates its magnetic field. Without rotation, there would be no magnetic field to protect us from the harmful solar winds. Also, it would mean an end to the world-famous lights called Auroras as they are formed due to the interaction between Earths magnetic field and particles of solar wind.

One man leaves the city life behind to build a cheap off grid log cabin and homestead in the Canadian wilderness, including a log home, an outdoor kitchen, an outhouse, a woodshed and a sauna bathhouse. Building mostly with hand tools, Shawn James harvests building materials from the forests north of Toronto, Canada and crafts them into functional tools and shelters using traditional woodworking tools and methods. He practices bushcraft and survival skills every day, including fire starting, tree identification and harvesting, wild edible foraging, fishing, hunting, camping in the summer and winter, travelling by canoe and snowshoe, navigation and water collection and purification.
Continue watching in 2019 as Shawn finishes the sauna, plants a forest garden for fruit and vegetables, builds an underground root cellar, ice house and cheese cave, a timber frame workshop and a remote hunt camp closer to fish and game.

Sea Turtles are some of the most majestic and ancient creatures on Earth. For over 100 million years, they have traversed the seas, surviving multiple mass extinctions and playing critical roles in maintaining healthy, marine food webs. Not only do these friendly animals captivate us as they peacefully glide through the ocean, but their personal journeys of survival are equally fascinating. These remarkable reptiles will traverse thousands of kilometers of open ocean for as long as 50 years and then, from half a world away, migrate, with mysterious precision, back to the very beach where they were born — to lay eggs that are the foundation of the next generation. With the turtles guiding us, our crews voyaged the same thousands of kilometers to capture the wonders of their habitats. Encountering many kinds of strange and compelling creatures from enormous breaching whales to the coral wonderland of the Great Barrier Reef — all have been filmed in stunning 3D — so that playful sea lions, tiny sea horses and vibrant clown fish will float right out into the theater.
